PDF Compressor FAQs

How does this compression tool work?

This tool converts each page of your PDF into an image. It then compresses these images based on your selected Quality and DPI settings and combines them back into a new PDF. This process happens entirely in your browser, ensuring your files remain private.

Why can't I select or search for text in the compressed PDF?

This is the most important trade-off of this method. Because each page is converted into an image to achieve high compression, the original text data is lost. The final PDF is a collection of images, not a text document. If you need searchable text, a server-side solution is required.

What are the best settings for Quality and DPI?

For a good balance between size and quality for screen viewing, the default settings (75% Quality, 144 DPI) are recommended. For the smallest possible size, you can lower the DPI to 72 and reduce the quality further. For higher quality, increase the DPI.

Can compressing make my file size bigger?

Yes, it's possible. If your original PDF was mostly text with very few images, converting each page into a full-resolution image can sometimes result in a larger file size. This tool works best for PDFs that are already image-heavy, like scans or presentations.

Is it safe to compress my documents with this tool?

Absolutely. The entire compression process happens directly in your web browser. Your files are never sent to or stored on our servers, giving you complete privacy and security.
